The investigating judge issued the order after the parliamentary Credentials and Privileges Commission decided to strip Glavas of immunity so that he could be remanded in custody in the ongoing investigation into the so-called Garage case, in which he is suspected of the unlafwul detention, torture and killing of civilians, investigating judge Ratko Scekic said on behalf of the County Court.
Judge Posavec requested that Glavas be stripped of immunity due to possible witness tampering and the Zagreb County Prosecutor's Office requested detention for Glavas because of the gravity of the crime he is suspected of.
Both requests were granted by the parliamentary Commission today. Only after the Commission made the decision could Judge Posavec issue an order for the police to arrest Glavas.
Glavas is accused of ordering the ill-treatment and killing of Serb civilians Cedomir Vuckovic and Djordje Petkovic and the torture of three other Serb civilians.
Along with Glavas also suspected is Krunoslav Fehir, who is charged with having tortured and shot at one civilian. Fehir pleaded guilty before the court and accused Glavas of ordering the crime.
In the meantime, accompanied by one of his lawyers and his son, Glavas left his Osijek home around 3 pm for Zagreb's Remetinec prison.
Asked if he had any message for Prime Minister Ivo Sanader and Sabor Speaker Vladimir Seks, Glavas said "See you at the elections!".
Speaking to his friends at his home before his departure for Zagreb, Glavas said: "I am embarking on a path which, at the time when we created the Croatian state, was unimaginable to me and all Croatian soldiers, and particularly those who lost their dearest ones. I am happy that the initiative for a better future for Slavonia was launched by the HDSSB association, which we founded and which is functioning well. I am calm despite the fact that I am going to prison because I know that the young County Prefect Kresimir Bubalo, to whom I have transferred my powers regarding the HDSSB association, will continue working for the common good and fight for the economic revival of Slavonia and Baranja."
