The two officials expressed satisfaction with the development of political relations between Germany and Croatia, particularly in view of intensified parliamentary cooperation over the past year.
Seks invited the Speaker of the Bundestag, Norbert Lammert, for an official visit to Croatia, saying that parliamentary cooperation was important not only for the bilateral relations but also for Croatia's European Union membership bid, given that Germany takes over the rotating EU presidency in January 2007.
Peters expressed his conviction that the current situation resulting from the rejection of the European Constitution in referendums in France and the Netherlands would not adversely affect Croatia's future membership of the European Union because there was no opposition among EU member states to Croatia's entry as soon as possible.
The German ambassador said that during its presidency of the EU Germany would define guidelines for resolving the crisis surrounding the adoption of the EU Constitution.
