Govt. to ask ICTY to reconsider decisions on friend of court status

ZAGREB, Oct 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Government has decided to ask the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to reconsider its decisions not to grant Zagreb's request to act as a friend of court before the tribunal in the cases regarding Croatian Army generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac and the trial against Jadranko Prlic and another five Bosnian Croat war-time political and military leaders.
ZAGREB, Oct 24 (Hina) - The Croatian Government has decided to ask the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) to reconsider its decisions not to grant Zagreb's request to act as a friend of court before the tribunal in the cases regarding Croatian Army generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac and the trial against Jadranko Prlic and another five Bosnian Croat war-time political and military leaders.

Pursuant to Article 30, paragraph 3 of the Croatian Government Act, the Ivo Sanader cabinet decided to send a letter to the Hague-based UN war crimes court to reconsider its recent decisions to turn down the Croatian Government's requests to be granted the status of "amicus curiae" in the above-mentioned cases, the Government's public relations office said in a press release on Tuesday evening.
