The conference also adopted an agreement on the need to more effectively apply those parts of the Convention and its protocols which provide for locating, prosecuting and punishing perpetrators and members of international organised criminal groups.
Participants were agreed that regardless of different legal systems in the parties to the Convention and other UN member states, it is necessary to establish forms of swift action in terms of extradition and legal assistance, notably in banning indicted persons from managing bank accounts and other property so as to prevent them from making any income from crime, anywhere in the world, said the president of the Croatian Academy of Legal Sciences, Zeljko Horvatic, who headed the Croatian delegation.
He highlighted regional cooperation in locating, prosecuting and punishing those responsible for illegal migrations and trafficking in humans, notably women and children, saying this was particularly important because of Croatia's location "on the route between Eastern and Western Europe".
Croatia signed and ratified the UN Convention in 2000.
