The exhibition, which in Italy will be held under the title "Apoxyomenos: l'Atleta della Croazia", was organised by the provincial culture and tourism department in Florence, and it will be open until January 30, 2007.
The bronze statue of a Greek athlete was discovered in 1999 in the sea off the coast of the island of Vela Orjula near the northern Adriatic town of Losinj. The statue dates back to the 4th century B.C. and leading international experts have agreed that it was made by an outstanding follower of the school of the great Greek sculptor Lysippos.
The sculpture was restored by Croatian and Italian experts.
