HAVANA, Sept 16 (Hina) - Croatian President Stjepan Mesic held talks in Havana on Saturday with his Algerian counterpart Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who called on Croatian companies to apply for business ventures in Algeria worth USD60 billion.

The two officials met on the fringes of a Non-Aligned Movement summit. Bouteflika welcomed Mesic's participation in the event, recalling the good relations between the former Yugoslavia and Algeria, where many Croatian companies were active until the early 1990s.

Bouteflika said he would liked Croatian companies to apply for ventures via international competitions, notably for infrastructure projects.

He also applauded the forthcoming reactivation of the Croatian embassy in Algeria, which closed down in 1993 after the slaughter of 12 Croatian workers.
