ZAGREB, Aug 24 (Hina) - The athletics event of the year in Croatia, the Grand Prix Zagreb meeting, will be held in the Croatian capital on August 31.
ZAGREB, Aug 24 (Hina) - The athletics event of the year in Croatia, the Grand Prix Zagreb meeting, will be held in the Croatian capital on August 31.

The organisers of the event announced at a news conference on Thursday the arrival of the world record holder in the women's hammer throw, and numerous European, world and Olympic champions.

The most attractive men's events will be the 110 metre hurdles and the long jump.

The audience will be able to see the four times world champion in the hurdles, Allen Johnson, European champion Stanislavs Olijars, the 19-year-old Cuban Dayron Robles, who has the fourth time this season, American David Oliver, and Jamaican Maurice Wignall.

High jumper Blanka Vlasic, who holds the Croatian record, will have very strong rivals, this year's leading high jumper Kajsa Bergquist, European champion Tia Hellebaut and Venelina Veneva of Bulgaria, who won the silver at the European Championships in Goeteborg.

The women's hammer throw will bring to Zagreb the current world record-holder Tatiana Lisenko of Russia, and two times world champion Yipsi Moreno of Cuba.

The women's 100-metre hurdles will see, among others, Olympic winner Joanna Hayes and world champion Michelle Perry.

The Zagreb Grand Prix meeting is part of the elite World Athletics Tour, which consists of 24 leading world meetings.
