ZAGREB, Sept 15 (Hina) - The Slovene special police withdrew from the Croatian-Slovene border near the Sveti Martin na Muri/Hotiza border crossing early Friday morning, after which the Croatian special police did the same, Croatian Interior Ministry spokesman Zlatko Mehun said.

"As soon as we noticed that the Slovene special police were no longer on the border, we withdrew our rapid-reaction police detachment," Mehun told Hina, adding that the situation on the border was currently calm.

Late on Thursday, in the Slovene town of Otocec ob Krki, the Croatian and Slovene chairmen of the joint water management commission, Zdravko Krmek and Marko Starman, signed an agreement on the reconstruction of the embankment against flooding on the left bank of the Mura river.

The signing of the agreement followed the September 2 joint statement of Prime Ministers Ivo Sanader of Croatia and Janez Jansa of Slovenia.

The agreement defines modalities of reconstruction of the embankment in the border area and funding. The works will be carried out by a consortium consisting of Croatian company Vodogradnja d.d. and Slovene company VGP Mura d.d.
