A Slovene special police unit consisting of some 50 members was deployed in an area 50-100 metres deep into Croatian territory, on a local road near the bridge on the River Mura on Croatian territory.
Unidentified perpetrators this evening felled six trees on that road, which leads to Murisce, closing it for traffic, Mehun said. Unidentified perpetrators also dug out a four-metre wide trench in the road making passage impossible, according to a Croatian police patrol.
Mehun said that there was no need for raising tension and that Croatian police would continue cooperating in the protection of the border, which he said should be a common goal of the two countries' police forces.
He added that a Croatian riot police unit was put on the alert in the area of the local border crossing Sveti Martin na Muri to protect Croatian borders.
The Slovene special police unit was deployed near Murisce, on Croatian cadastral territory, on Wednesday afternoon. Slovene Minister of the Interior Dragutin Mate said that the decision on their deployment was made "on the political level" following an incident involving Slovene reporters which happened earlier in the day.
Three Slovene reporters were taken into custody and interviewed in Mursko Sredisce this morning for crossing the state border without passes. The three reporters were then escorted to the nearby border crossing together with another eight Slovene reporters who later unlawfully crossed the border. No charges were pressed against the reporters.
