Freedom of movement for workers is one of the four freedoms on which the EU internal market is based, the three other being freedoms of movement of goods, capital and services.
Regulations from this chapter refer only to workers with permanent work contracts, while the rights of self-employed persons are regulated with chapters on freedom of the provision of services and freedom of establishment.
All workers have the right to employment in another member-country, including the right to equal working conditions, the right to social, cultural and economic integration of immigrant workers, and appropriate rights for their families.
Croatia will have to amend the Law on Aliens in the segment which refers to nationals of EU member-countries, including the abolishment of work permits, changes in regulations on residence permits and registering with the Employment Bureau, etc.
Croatia's negotiator for this chapter, Vera Babic, said that Croatia was expected to adjust its legislation in this field by the end of next year, while some regulations will go into force on the day of Croatia's EU entry.
The explanatory screening for the chapter on justice and fundamental rights was due to end today as well. The bilateral stage of screening for justice and fundamental rights will be held on 17-18 October, when the entire process of screening ends.
