PRISTINA, Sept 1 (Hina) - Two German officials formally assumed
top diplomatic and military positions in Kosovo on Friday, with Joachim Ruecker
taking over as the head of the UN Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK), while General
Roland Kather assumed command of the NATO-led peacekeeping force, KFOR. The new UN administrator of the province said earlier that his priorities
would include support for the ongoing talks on the final status of Kosovo and
preparations for the completion of the UN mission in the province.
Before assuming the new post, Ruecker served in the mission as deputy
administrator in charge of economic affairs. He is the sixth UN administrator
of Kosovo in the last seven years.
General Kather succeeded General Giuseppe Valotto of Italy. He stayed
in Kosovo in the 1999-2000 period as commander of the KFOR German Sector.
