Associated Press reported that the ship, which was providing services for the Brazilian oil company Petrobras, caught fire in the port of Niteroi near Rio de Janeiro, where it had been anchored.
More than 50 firefighters were trying to contain the fire and by Saturday morning they managed to put out some 80 percent of the fire, the Brazilian authorities reported, adding that the firefighters had difficulty extinguishing the flames because the ship carried flammable materials.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but the authorities believe that the fire was probably caused by sailors welding inside the ship.
