MOSTAR, Aug 22 (Hina) - The Supreme Court of the Federation of
Bosnia-Herzegovina has upheld the verdict delivered by the Cantonal Court in
Mostar, sentencing five Bosnian Muslims to 13 and a half years in prison for
war crimes against Croats in Herzegovina, the Mostar Court reported on
Tuesday. The aggregate sentence against the former members of the
Army of Bosnia-Herzegovina -- Zikrija Ljevo, Vernes Zahirovic, Becir Omanovic,
Habib Copelj and Husnija Orucevic -- was delivered at the end of March.
However, the defence team for the five men appealed the verdict requesting an
acquittal, while prosecutors demanded a more severe sentence. The Supreme Court
dismissed both appeals.
In 2001, the County Court in Mostar acquitted the five Bosnian Muslims,
but the Supreme Court ordered a re-trail.
