Employment continues to grow in June

ZAGREB, Aug 6 (Hina) - The number of employees in Croatia continued to grow in June, with a 1% increase compared to May.

June was the fourth consecutive month to see a rise in employment. In March employment grew 0.2%, in April 0.7% and in May 0.9%.

There were 1,144,087 employees in Croatia in June, 14,481 more than in May. According to preliminary statistics, 1,130,425 people were employed with companies, which is 9,528 or 0.9% more than in May.

The rise in employment was mostly the result of seasonal employment in the tourism sector, which is evidenced by an increase in hotel and restaurant employees.

There were 274,471 unemployed in late June, a 4.5% drop or 12,812 fewer unemployed compared to the end of May. The rate of registered unemployment was 16%, while in May it was 16.7%.

Of the total number of jobless people, 60.3% were women. The registered rate of unemployment among women in June was 20.2%, according to the Employment Office.
