A Croatian delegation is in Iraq from August 1 to 3 and this is the foreign ministry's first visit to that country. The delegation, headed by Assistant Minister Pjer Simunovic, held talks with top Iraqi officials, including Foreign Minister Hoshiyar Zebari, and the international community's leading representatives there.
Croatia supports the new Iraqi government led by Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki and wishes to contribute to the stabilisation and democratisation of Iraq, the statement said.
The delegation held talks on the advancement of Croatian-Iraqi relations, on how Croatia can help Iraq, on how Croatian companies can participate in reconstruction, and on the establishment of a permanent Croatian diplomatic office in Iraq.
The Croatian delegation also visited the International Police Academy in Jordan at which three Croatian police instructors are participating in the education of Iraqi police.
