Sanader was speaking to Croatian reporters covering his first official trip to Great Britain after a meeting at the Bank of England, where he presented Croatia's economic and political potentials.
Sanader recalled that British Prime Minister Tony Blair confirmed the unquestionable support to Croatia on the road to the EU, clearly saying that if Croatia met the criteria and successfully closed the negotiations there would be no political obstacles or brakes on the road to full membership.
Sanader said that was the most important message from the trip because it came from the prime minister of one of the leading countries in the EU and the international community. He added the message was represented a big success for Croatia's diplomacy, foreign and state policy in general.
The change in the position towards Croatia coincided with British Deputy PM John Prescott's visit to Zagreb last October, but Sanader also recalled his prior meeting with President Jacques Chirac in France, and later with Dutch PM Jan-Peter Balkenende in Zagreb.
"Those were the countries which were the strictest in asking for the application of the principle of full cooperation with The Hague, and when we met that criterion, it has transpired that those countries are strong advocates of Croatia," said Sanader.
He added the full change in the stand on Croatia was reflected in the fact that Croatia would be actively engaged in the drafting of new solutions for the European constitution.
Sanader said Croatia had made huge progress between March 2005, when EU membership talks were suspended, and today, when negotiations were successfully under way, because it was already perceived as a member state of the Union, also among the Union's citizens.
Speaking of his meeting with City of London business people, Sanader said they were interested in investing in Croatia and were familiar with the situation here. He added they asked about Croatia's role in Southeast Europe, the privatisation of the shipbuilding and metal-working industries, the development of mass and elite tourism, and the building of golf courses.
The Croatian delegation is due in Zagreb in the afternoon.
