BRUSSELS, June 21 (Hina) - In the policy chapter on company law, Croatian legislation is adjusted to European Union standards to a great extent, although much work remains to be done, Croatian negotiators for this chapter said in Brussels on Wednesday.

The explanatory screening - the analysis of the level of adjustment of national legislation to the EU acquis communautaire - was held in Brussels today.

The company law chapter consists of three parts - company law, accounting and auditing.

In the first part, which refers to the rules of establishment, registration, merging and dividing of companies, the level of adjustment of Croatia's legislation to the EU's is the highest, negotiator Sinisa Petrovic said.

More work awaits the country in the other two parts of the chapter. Croatia will have to adopt international accounting standards, because the EU considers them important for the internal market.

As for auditing, the country will have to change regulations which are discriminating against EU nationals.
