Attorneys for three Croatian reporters on ICTY's decision to withdraw indictment against their clients

ZAGREB, June 16 (Hina) - The attorneys for three Croatian journalists whose indictment for contempt of ICTY was withdrawn earlier on Friday, have expressed satisfaction with the UN war crimes tribunal decision, stressing that the indictment would not stand in court anyway.

"I am not surprised at the decision to withdraw the indictment because it was constituted in a way that it would not stand in court," the attorney for Stjepan Seselj, Zeljko Olujic, told Hina on Friday.

ICTY Chief Prosecutor Carla del Ponte has decided not to criminally prosecute the three Croatian journalists - Stjepan Seselj, Domagoj Margetic and Marijan Krizic - so as to reduce the number of indictments and improve the tribunal's efficiency, spokesman for the ICTY Prosecutor's Office Anton Nikiforov reported Friday.

Seselj, Margetic and Krizic, the publisher and two former editors in chief of Hrvatsko Slovo weekly, have been indicted for revealing the identity and testimony of a protected witness at the Tihomic Blaskic trial. Margetic is also charged with publishing the transcript of the testimony of Croatian President Stjepan Mesic, who was the protected witness in the Blaskic trial.
