BRUSSELS, June 7 (Hina) - The date of Croatia's admission to the
European Union is mainly in its own hands and will depend on the speed of
reform and the country's ability to meet the membership criteria, EU
Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn said in Brussels on Wednesday.
What is important is the speed of reform and Croatia's ability to meet all the
obligations arising from membership. The Croatian government and administration
are fully focused on this and I am sure they will be efficient, Rehn told
reporters after meeting Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev.
Rehn was asked to comment on his address on Tuesday to the French
National Assembly, where he said that after Bulgaria and Romania, Croatia was
likely the next country to join the European Union, but not before the end of
this decade.
