Croatian President Josipovic arrives in Berlin for official visit to Germany

BERLIN, Jan 19 (Hina) - Croatian President Ivo Josipovic on Wednesday arrived in Berlin for his three-day official visit to Germany.

Today, the Croatian head of state is expected to meet Bundestag Speaker Norbert Lammert.

On Thursday, Josipovic is due to hold talks with German President Christian Wulff, Chancellor Angela Merkel and Berlin Mayor Klaus Wowereit.

He is also expected to hold a lecture at an event organised by the Robert Bosch foundation and the German foreign affairs society (DGAP) on reconciliation policy and Croatia's accession to the European Union.

On Friday, the Croatian president is travelling to Mainz where he is due to meet Kurt Beck, the Minister President of the German federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate, and attend an economic forum.

Security has heightened for the visit of the Croatian president after the package containing a bomb and a threatening letter arrived at the Croatian Embassy in Berlin on Monday,

Croatian Ambassador to Germany, Miro Kovac, said today the German police were working on solving this case.

Some associations of the Croatian ex-pats in Germany have said that they will stage in Mainz a rally protesting against Josipovic's visit.

Croatian Foreign Minister Gordan Jandrokovic is also expected to meet his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle today in Berlin.
