"Croatian soldiers will not take part in mopping-up operations. There will be no combat activity against the Taleban," Roncevic said responding to objections from Party of Rights (HSP) deputy Pero Kovacevic, who said that the next contingent with Croatian troops in Afghanistan would be exposed to danger.
Kovacevic said that the next, 150-strong contingent would take part in mop-up operations in western Afghanistan, which is considered a high-risk mission.
Rocevic said that the participation of Croatian soldiers in such operations required a special decision by the parliament, adding that the operation in question was not part of the ISAF mission.
Responding to objections that Croatian troops participating in the ISAF mission are not appropriately equipped, the minister said that this was not true and that Croatian military police officers in Kabul had armoured vehicles.
He went on to say that the security situation in Kabul had improved significantly this year in relation to last year.
Jozo Rados of the People's Party (HNS) said that future reports should state measures taken to improve activities in the ISAF mission and the mission's risk level.
The parliament will continue its session on Thursday.
