ZAGREB, May 31 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Wednesday sent
to parliament for discussion and adoption a draft five-year health development
national strategy which focuses on strengthening of prevention, shorter waiting
lists, financial stabilisation, and a different drugs policy. Also
today, Assistant Health Minister Renato Mittermayer was publicly reprimanded
for stating his personal opinion about the drafting of a law which would ban
smoking in all public places, including cafes.
Prime Minister Ivo Sanader reprimanded Mittermayer at the government
session, while Health Minister Neven Ljubicic did so before the press.
Sanader reiterated that a law banning smoking in all public places was
not being drawn up and that existing legislation precisely stipulates where
smoking is and is not allowed.
