BRIJUNI, April 25 (Hina) - There is a difference between ICTY
indictees whose proceedings have been referred to Croatia and those who are
standing trial in The Hague, but both categories will receive equal assistance
from the state, Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said on Tuesday in Brijuni
where he was attending a ministerial meeting of the U.S.-Adriatic Charter. Asked by reporters covering the Brijuni event to comment on the
different criteria applied by the Croatian government to indictees of the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), which was
obvious in the case of General Rahim Ademi who has not received any financial
assistance from the state for his defence for years, Mesic said that "there is
really a difference between ICTY indictees whose proceedings have been referred
to Croatia and those standing trial in The Hague".
"In Croatia, the situation is completely different and I believe that
General Ademi can be certain that his situation will be settled regarding the
financing of his defence," the Croatian president said.
