In a letter to the VAD, Podrug said he was appalled by the fact that he was subjected to a public lynching campaign only because he had the courage to state his opinion, which he said "was the opinion of the VAD until recently".
The Split police on Monday interviewed Podrug about the circumstances of the incident which happened at Saturday's election convention of the VAD in Sinj. The police will forward its report to the State Prosecutor's Office in Sinj to decide if charges are to be pressed against Podrug.
The Alka Society was established in tribute to the people of the Sinj region, southern Croatia, who defeated invading Ottoman Turks in battle in August 1715. In memory of that event, every August the Society organises a jousting tournament in which "Alkars", lance-wielding horsemen dressed in traditional costume, match their skills as they target a metal ring ("Alka") suspended over a race track.
