PRISTINA, March 24 (Hina) - Kosovo's government on Friday thanked the United States, Great Britain and other NATO members for their involvement in a NATO air campaign that drove Yugoslav forces out of Kosovo in 1999.

The government said in a statement that the purpose of NATO's action was "to protect freedom and civilisation's values endangered by the Slobodan Milosevic regime."

"Our joint journey with NATO began on 24 March 1999 and we are determined to continue along that path until full integration into the structures of NATO and the European Union," Kosovo Prime Minister Agim Ceku said in Pristina at a ceremony marking the seventh anniversary of NATO air strikes.

Ceku said that NATO's intervention "brought freedom and peace to the people of Kosovo."
