Senator Voinovich, who was accompanied by US Ambassador Ralph Frank, congratulated Croatia on having started EU membership negotiations. The talks with the Croatian parliamentarians focused on the situation in the region with emphasis on relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
Relations between Serbia and Kosovo strongly affect stability in the region, which in turn can affect economy and tourism in the countries in the region, including Croatia, Voinovich said.
Committee member Kresimir Cosic said that a change of social climate in Kosovo was necessary for a general reform of the society.
Committee member Tonino Picula thanked the USA for its support to the process of Croatia's democratisation, saying that Croatia was interested in Kosovo's stabilisation because of economic development and investment.
The meeting also discussed Croatia's future NATO membership, with Committee member Milorad Pupovac saying that the alliance was still perceived in Croatia with some distrust. The participants in the meeting agreed that the media could help in improving the popularity of NATO in Croatia.
