Under the plan, Croatia would invest for that purpose EUR 60 million from the government budget and EU pre-accession funds, of which 50 million would be used to ensure navigability of the waterway and the rest to modernise ports at Sisak and Slavonski Brod.
The commission was established in June 2005 by Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Serbia and Montenegro, and is based in Zagreb.
In accordance with EU rules, the commission will adopt a Sava River Basin Management Plan as a basic strategic document and binding decisions to ensure safe navigation. It will establish joint information systems and formulate protocols for emergencies.
