Beslic invited the pope at a meeting with the new apostolic nuncio in Bosnia, Archbishop Alessandro D'Errico, held on Tuesday.
D'Errico, who is the first diplomat of the Holy See to officially visit the Mostar city authorities after the war, said the town was important for the Vatican because of its culture and history and because there were more Croat Catholics in Mostar than in any other Bosnian city.
"The Holy See is closely following not only church but also civilian activities in Mostar," D'Errico said.
