ZAGREB/CHICAGO, March 17 (Hina) - The Registry of the
International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) has accepted
the accreditation of U.S. lawyer Luka Misetic as a defence attorney for an
indictee, retired Croatian General Ante Gotovina. Misetic told Hina
over the phone that Gotovina's defence team would oppose the motion of the
prosecution for a joinder of this case with that of another two Croatian
generals, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac.
The joinder would be detrimental to the interests of all the three
indictees, Misetic said. The defence teams for Markac and Cermak also opposed
the joinder.
The generals are charged, on the basis of their command responsibility,
with war crimes committed against ethnic Serbs in the summer of 1995.
