ZAGREB, March 16 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday sent a proposed national anti-corruption programme for the 2006-2008 period to Parliament for consideration, with Prime Minister Ivo Sanader calling on "everyone in Croatia to give their contribution to the fight against corruption."

"We do not want Croatian citizens to feel helpless before the system," Sanader said at a government session.

The purpose of the programme is to reduce corruption to an extent where it will not pose an obstacle to social, economic and political development. Special attention is devoted to areas where corruption is widespread, including the judiciary, health services, local government and public administration, political parties, the economic sector, and science.

Sanader said that his government had demonstrated "a determination and unequivocal political will" in combating corruption, bribery and organised crime.
