Justice minister optimistic about 2011

ZAGREB, Dec 22 (Hina) - Croatian Justice Minister Drazen Bosnjakovic has said that he is optimistic about activities and results which his ministry is to make in 2011, including the expected closing of the policy chapter on Judiciary and Fundamental Rights within Croatia's European Union accession negotiations.

Presenting the results of the ongoing reform in the justice system at a news conference in Zagreb on Wednesday, Bosnjakovic expressed satisfaction with what had been done so far.

He also voiced confidence that 2011 would be the year of full implementation of legislative and other reform changes.

The establishment of the Judicial Appointment Council and of the State Attorneys' Council. that will independently elect judges and state attorneys respectively, is expected in early 2011.

The minister said that proceedings conducted by the Croatian judiciary had received good marks from the European Commission in its latest progress report on Croatia.

Asked about future obstacles on the road towards the closing of the Judiciary and Fundamental Rights in Croatia's EU membership talks, Bosnajkovic said that taking into consideration positive marks and the full implementation of reforms as of the start of 2011 "things are pretty good".
