The 11-member court also decided that in the next 12 months no draft amendment in contravention to the affirmative answer to the proposed referendum question could be forwarded in procedure.
The Constitutional Court explains that the committee in charge of the initiative for the referendum tied its formal request for the possible referendum with the proposal for modifying the ZOR, which the government later withdrew from the procedure. Withdrawing its draft amendments, the government respected the will of voters who signed the trade union federations' initiative. More than 710,000 people signed the initiative.
Constitutional Court President Jasna Omejec today criticised statements given on Tuesday by some union leaders who lambasted the court's possible decision.
Some unionists described the Constitutional Court as "a farcical body making a farcical decision" adding that the trade unions would be braced to "respond lethally" to such a ruling.
Omejec called on the Croatians not to be guided by destructive messages of "ambitious individuals" who do not want the solution of problems in accordance with the Constitution.
