HNS party marks its 20th anniversary

ZAGREB, Oct 17 (Hina) - Addressing the central ceremony marking the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Croatian People's Party (HNS), the party leader Radimir Cacic said that Croatians were still living "in a feigned rule of law society".

"The truth is what the political majority says with the support of intertwined media, and the state has been disappearing in the function of a parallel mafia system," Cacic said.

He called for strengthening Croatian regions and creating a Croatia with equal opportunities.

The HNS leader said that only a proactive economic policy with new jobs in the manufacturing sector and economic growth could draw the country out of the grave economic situation.

He cited tourism, potential in energy production, geo-strategic position at energy and railway corridors and agriculture and environment as levers for the country's development.

The HNS was set up on 13 October 1990 with the late Savka Dabcevic Kucar at its helm.

In attendance at today's ceremony were leaders of other Opposition parties, Milorad Pupovac of the Independent Democratic Serb Party (SDSS), which is a junior partner in the ruling coalition, members of the Diplomatic Corps in Zagreb, representatives of trade unions and civil society organisations, former Croatian president Stjepan Mesic, who used to be an HNS official, Serbian politician Cedo Jovanovic and some other guests.
