ZAGREB, Feb 9 (Hina) - A delegation of the Croatian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, led by State Secretary for Political Issues Hido Biscevic, and a delegation of the Portuguese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by State Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Joao Gomes Cravinho, met in Zagreb on Thursday for regular political consultations.

Biscevic informed the Portuguese delegation about efforts Croatia was making towards Euro-Atlantic integration, focusing on the progress of membership talks with the European Union.

Considering the reforms Croatia has implemented and the progress it has made, Croatia expects positive signals regarding an invitation to become a full member of NATO at this year's summit in Riga, Biscevic said.

Speaking of Euro-Atlantic integration processes in Southeast Europe, Biscevic said that Croatia supported the principle according to which the fulfilment of the membership criteria should be assessed for each country individually.

In that context, the Croatian official thanked Portugal for providing strong support to Croatia on its path to membership of the European Union and NATO.

The Croatian delegation also informed the Portuguese officials about the situation in Southeast Europe. The two sides agreed that Croatia, as a membership candidate and a future full member of the EU, would play an important role in stabilising the region and helping other countries in their efforts to join Euro-Atlantic institutions.

The Portuguese delegation also met the Croatian Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic. Their talks focused on the need to further promote cooperation between the two countries, particularly in the economic sector, tourism and culture.
