ZAGREB, Feb 8 (Hina) - The head of the Croatian Export and Investment Promotion Agency, Zeljko Kirincic, on Wednesday presented the goals of the agency to members of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Croatia.

The current structure of foreign investments in Croatia is absolutely unsatisfactory and this is what we want to change in the future, Kirincic said.

According to figures released by the Croatian National Bank (HNB), foreign direct investments totalled 11.2 billion euros from 1993 to the end of September 2005,.

Investments in the banking sector made up 24 percent of all investments. This sector was followed by telecommunications with a share of 14.2 percent. The investments in the pharmaceutical industry accounted for 8.9 percent, and the production of petroleum products attracted 6.9 percent of foreign investments

The AmCham executive director in Croatia, Damir Vucic, said that what was the most attractive for foreign investors in Croatia were its highly-qualified workforce and favourable geographic position, adding that the most attractive sectors for investment were real estate and tourism.
