ZAGREB, Jan 16 (Hina) - The Croatian Independent Trade Unions (NHS) sent a letter to Italy's Ambassador to Zagreb, Alessandro Grafini, on Monday warning him that he had done nothing about a trade union representative being harassed by Italian owners of the factory where she works.

The NHS wrote to Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi on 22 December, describing the situation in Sinj-based sewing thread manufacturer Dalmatinka Nova d.d. and the harassment of Iva Radonja, the leader of the trade union branch in the company.

"We have received no reply to date, and their treatment of Radonja has worsened," the NHS said in its letter to the Italian ambassador.

Meanwhile, Radonja was transferred to a lower pay position, for which reason she filed a suit with the municipal court in Sinj. She was barred from entering the factory compound and was ordered to take five days' leave. She suffered stress and sought medical assistance as a result of harassment in the workplace.

Unless the treatment of the trade union representative changes, the NHS will organise a protest rally outside the Italian Embassy in Zagreb to bring the attention of the Croatian public to the acts by the Italian employers and the lack of desire on the part of Italian diplomacy and the prime minister to resolve this case in a satisfactory manner, the letter said.
