SYDNEY, Jan 13 (Hina/AP) - A man wanted by Croatian authorities for alleged war crimes said Friday that a warrant for his arrest issued by Zagreb was an attempt to exert pressure on Serbs.

Addressing reporters in the western Australian city of Perth, Dragan Vasiljkovic - known by his pseudonym "Captain Dragan", said he was not at least worried about the international warrant and harshly criticised Croatian authorities.

"They hate Serbs, this is why the war broke out," he said. "It is just a fascist government and they will do anything to apply pressure to the Serbs," Vasiljkovic told the Australian media, AP reported.

The Croatian Interior Ministry on Wednesday issued a warrant for Vasiljkovic at the request of the district court in the southern city of Sibenik that opened an investigation against him in November.

Vasiljkovic is suspecting of having ordered the torture, killing or expulsion of Croatian soldiers and civilians during the Homeland Defence War.

Australian authorities can neither arrest nor extradite Vasiljkovic to Croatia based on the warrant. Croatia must submit a request for extradition with original documents of the court handling the case, after which competent Australian bodies will decide about the extradition process. The Croatian Justice Ministry has confirmed that the process is under way.
