VRHOVINE, 10. siječnja 2006. (Hina) - The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) said on Tuesday it had been successfully implementing post-war reconstruction projects in the central Croatian counties of Lika, Karlovac and Sisak.

With the assistance of the German government and various associations, this non-governmental organisation has rebuilt over 800 family houses in the three counties over the past six years, and plans to provide parcels with hygiene accessories, clothing, shoes, and fuel wood for 2,900 people there as part of its winterisation project.

The projects implemented so far are worth four million euros, the director of the ADRA office in Croatia, Tihomir Lipohar, said at a press conference at the agency's headquarters in Vrhovine, about 150 kilometres south of Zagreb.

This year ADRA plans to join the Croatian Mine Action Centre in a EUR150,000 project to clear about 100,000 square metres of land of mines left over from the 1991-1995 war, which will ensure a faster and safer return of refugees to their pre-war homes.

The agency also plans to start economic programmes, particularly in agriculture, in areas that were hit by war, Lipohar said.
