ZAGREB, June 20 (Hina) - The club of deputies of the Croatian People's Party (HNS) on Wednesday submitted a proposal to give the government a vote of no confidence because of a recent corruption scandal in the Croatian Privatisation Fund (HFP), the head of the club, Dragutin Lesar, told a news conference.

The HNS proposal was supported by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and regional parties.

Lesar said he expected the parliament to put the proposal on the agenda of the current session and discuss its within 30 days.

Asked why his party did not offer deputies of the Peasant Party (HSS) to sign the proposal, Lesar said that the HSS Presidency would discuss the proposal and inform the HNS of whether it would support it.

Lesar was then joined by Slavko Linic of the SDP, who said that the political responsibility of government members sitting on the HFP Management Board was evident.

"Since PM Sanader is personally protecting them, we believe that the entire government should be held politically responsible," Linic said.

Commenting on the HSS's proposal that government ministers be removed from companies' management and supervisory boards, Linic said that any measure of political responsibility was acceptable to him.

"However, at this moment, (PM) Sanader is saying that a driver and HFP vice-presidents can steal, but that government ministers cannot be held responsible for that, which means that he considers us unreasonable," Linic concluded.
