ZAGREB, June 18 (Hina) - The Simon Wiesenthal Centre from Jerusalem on Monday sent a letter to Croatian President Stjepan Mesic expressing shock at "mass demonstration of fascist greetings, symbols and uniforms" at a rock concert of the popular ultra-nationalist Croatian singer that goes by the name Thompson that was attended by some 60,000 people.

The director of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, Efraim Zuroff asked Mesic to ban similar concert glorifying fascism and racism.

According to the Croatian media, Thompson's concert, held in Zagreb on Sunday, turned into a mass fascism demonstration during which tens of thousands of people chanted the Ustasha greeting "Za Dom Spremni". A large number of people in the audience wore Ustasha uniforms and symbols, Zuroff said in the letter.

He also expressed concern with the fact that the concert was attended by top Croatian officials, parliamentarians and the minister of science, education and sport.

Under these circumstances, I believe it is time to ban such public concerts at which nostalgic songs about the Jasenovac concentration camps are sang and Ustasha symbols displayed.
