ZAGREB, June 8 (Hina) - Croatian Science, Education and Sports Minister Dragan Primorac on Friday sent a message to Croatian scientist Marin Soljacic, an associate professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, congratulating him on having experimentally demonstrated wireless power transfer.

"We are proud that you and your team have continued on the path of the great inventor Nikola Tesla," Primorac said in the message among other things.

Soljacic and his colleagues have successfully demonstrated in an experiment the wireless transfer of energy, about which one of the world's leading science magazines "Science" is to publish an article in a few weeks.

The media have reported that this discovery could make laptop and cell phone chargers unnecessary in a few years' time. The news of the experiment was published in the on-line edition of the magazine ScienceXpress and was carried by the world media.

Marin Soljacic was born in Zagreb in 1974. After completing secondary education in Zagreb, he was awarded a scholarship to study at MIT, where he received a BsE degree in physics and electrical engineering in 1996. He earned his PhD in physics at Princeton University in 2000.
