By using energy efficiently and making wise consumer choices, citizens can reduce personal emissions of greenhouse gases by some 20% or one tonne annually, it was said at the news conference.
Croatians annually produce an average of six tonnes of CO2 per capita. Individual household emissions account for some 30% of all emissions and emissions from passenger and road transport account for slightly less than 50% of all emissions of greenhouse gases in the country.
The brochure was devised as a guide for action against climate change with concrete instructions on how to use less energy, protect the environment, and save money.
On Tuesday, 540,000 such brochures will be enclosed with dailies, and another 60,000 will be distributed at information stands in towns and counties covered by the project.
The project to encourage energy efficiency is implemented jointly by the UN Development Program, the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency, and the ministries of environmental protection and economy.
