The secretary general said that members of the Security Council were holding consultations on the Kosovo issue and that he personally held talks with a number of statesmen and prime ministers and asked them to support this issue.
Ban Ki-moon said that any form of tardiness in resolving this issue would not improve the situation considering the diametrally opposite positions of Serbs and Albanians.
Ahtisaari's proposal contains all necessary elements building Kosovo's future, the secretary general said.
The said proposal envisages a supervised independence for Kosovo, but the authorities in Belgrade dismissed it, proposing a supervised autonomy and new negotiations on Kosovo. The UN secretary general said he expected the European Union to talk to Serbia about this issue.
