According to information from Croatia's Embassy in Rome, two Croatian nationals abducted on Thursday morning in the Niger Delta area were freed, reads a press release the ministry sent to Hina this afternoon.
The news on the release of a group of the abducted foreigners including the two Croatians was confirmed by the Eni Saipem company and the Nigerian police, according to the press release.
According to the Reuters news agency, Nigerian militant group MEND said all the hostages taken from an Italian-operated offshore oilfield earlier on Thursday had been released.
"The self-styled leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) said his group had not intended to take more hostages, having seized six foreign workers from a U.S.-operated oilfield on Tuesday," Reuters reported.
One of the abducted workers who were taken hostage on Tuesday is Croatian national Jurica Ruic.
MEND has announced the unconditional release of this group for 30 May.
Since the start of this year, at least 92 persons have been taken hostage in this turbulent area rich in oil resources.
