The eight programs were chosen from among 98 proposed by NGOs from all over Croatia, in line with a decision by a commission consisting of World Bank Office staff and representatives of the donor community.
Since 1983, through its programme of small grants, the World Bank has been facilitating the work of NGOs in the field of social development and organisations of civil society. Since 1999, when the program was launched in Croatia, US$ 238,000 worth of aid was granted to some 80 NGOs.
To date, the Bank has offered support for 32 projects with a total value of US$ 1.8 billion, and it has approved 48 grants with a total value of US$ 51.5 million. All ongoing projects financed by the Bank have satisfactory ratings.
