Hague tribunal issues written decision postponing Gotovina-Cermak-Markac trial

THE HAGUE/ZAGREB, April 20 (Hina) - The Hague war crimes tribunal said in writing on Friday that the trial of Croatian Army generals Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac would be postponed until further notice, a little over two weeks after pretrial judge Bakone Justice Moloto verbally announced so.

Judge Moloto announced the postponement at a pretrial hearing due to a series of unresolved issues, including the question of whether defence counsel Miroslav Separovic, who represents Markac, and Cedo Prodanovic and Jadranka Slokovic, who represent Cermak, would remain on the case.

In the meantime, the three attorneys were excluded from proceedings due to conflict of interest and appealed the decisions to that effect.

Judge Moloto said on that occasion that the delay would not be long, but the written decision issued today said the trial was postponed until further notice.

The trial was originally scheduled to start on May 7.
