The NGOs on Tuesday expressed concerns about the latest indications that Brussels may ease the constraint on Belgrade despite the fact that Serbia had not yet met the requirements regarding its cooperation with the Hague-based UN tribunal.
The fulfilment of those requirements has been a condition for the resumption of talks with Serbia on a Stabilisation and Association Agreement.
The four civil society organisations warned that the European Union should not yield to the challenge of trading with fundamental principles while negotiating on a final status for Kosovo.
This can only strengthen extreme nationalists, halt the process of the reform forces distancing themselves from the legacy of the Slobodan Milosevic regime and prevent the development of a democratic Serbia which deserves its place in the family of the European nations, the four NGOs said.
