Denmark topped the rankings of the Global Information Technology Report for the first time since the report was launched in 2001. It was followed by Sweden, Singapore and Finland, while the United States slipped from the top position last year to seventh place.
The report says that "Denmark"s outstanding levels of networked readiness have to do with the country"s excellent regulatory environment, coupled with a clear government leadership and vision in leveraging ICT for growth and promoting ICT penetration and usage."
The use of ICT is increasingly becoming a key instrument by which countries ensure continued progress. The Nordic countries have shown that their early focus on education, innovations and ICT promotion is a winning strategy to achieve a developed networked readiness and competitiveness, said Irene Mia, a senior economist at the World Trade Forum and co-editor of the report.
