ZAGREB, March 23 (Hina) - The Croatian National Bank (HNB) has rejected criticism of the Croatian Banking Association (HUB) over the latest measures which the central bank has taken to curb an increase in loans taken abroad.

The HUB accuses the HNB od de-stimulating the export and the economic development and insists on excluding collateral for the return of advance payments from the basic accounts of the marginal compulsory primary reserves. On Thursday, HUB sent a letter to government officials urging them to consider what it said were the other problems in the implementation of marginal compulsory primary reserves.

The central bank on Friday described this as political pressure.

The HNB countered that the growth in the external debt and in its share in Gross Domestic Product was potentially dangerous to the country's stability in the long run, and that is why this financial institution is taking measures in a bid to curb the foreign debt.

The HNB also warns that the latest measures have not yet diminished the interest of commercial banks in incurring more credits abroad.
