KARLOVAC, March 20 (Hina) - Karlovac County Court investigating judge Jasminka Jerinic Musnjak on Tuesday ordered an autopsy of 64-year-old Zdravko Martinovic who died on Monday after he fell into coma while taking a walk near a canal carrying sewage from the local "Karlovacka Pivovara" brewery on 23 February.

The autopsy was ordered due to suspicion that the death was caused by a criminal act or is linked with the commission of a criminal act, which was why an investigation was previously launched into five executives of "Karlovacka Pivovara" and the brewery as a legal entity.

The autopsy report will be forwarded to the County Prosecutor's Office to change the factual aspects and legal qualification of the criminal act and make it qualify as causing death.

This type of crime carries a prison sentence of between 3 to 15 years and a fine ranging from 15,000 to four million kuna. Other penalties are possible as well.

The 150-year-old brewery, now owned by the Heineken Group, is suspected of having dumped carbon dioxide waste into the local sewerage, which is believed to have caused Martinovic's coma. Preliminary check-ups showed that he had a high concentration of ammonia in his blood.
